'A Muntagna: the highest active volcano in Europe (about 3350 meters), a UNESCO World Heritage site, which the Sicilians simply call 'her'. From the Sapienza Refuge (1900 m), accessible by car from Nicolosi through lava flows and extinct craters, the cable car and 4x4 vehicles to the summit craters depart (mandatory guide beyond 2900 m; cable car + jeep approximately 60-80 euros, check). Don't miss the Silvestri craters, which can be freely explored next to the refuge, the lunar landscapes of volcanic sand, and, with the advantage of the altitude, the panorama that embraces half of Sicily. Bring a jacket even in summer: it really gets cold up there. At the foot of the volcano, vineyards of Nerello and honey from Zafferana.
