In the park of Villa Landolina, just a stone's throw from the Sanctuary, lies one of the most important archaeological museums in Europe: 9,000 square meters of exhibits that tell the story of Sicily from prehistory to the Greco-Roman era. Named after Paolo Orsi, the great archaeologist who excavated half of Eastern Sicily between the 19th and 20th centuries. Notable pieces include: the Venus Anadiomene ('Venere Landolina', 2nd century AD, marble from the Praxitelean school), the kouros of Lentini, the bronzes of Pantalica and Castelluccio, the terracottas from the Temple of Athena, and the sarcophagus of Adelfia from the Catacombs of San Giovanni. Sections include: prehistory, Greek colonies (Syracuse, Megara Hyblaea, Gela), subcolonies and indigenous sites, Hellenistic-Roman era. Plan for at least two hours.
