On the hill of Civita stood Abellinum, the Roman colony from which the entire Irpinia and the city of Avellino take their name. The archaeological park preserves impressive sections of the walls, the aqueduct, and a large patrician domus from the 1st century AD with frescoed rooms, as well as the remains of the amphitheater in the surroundings.
