The Cathedral Basilica of San Giuliano is the main place of Catholic worship in Caltagirone and the mother church of the eponymous diocese. In 1948, Pope Pius XII elevated it to the rank of minor basilica. This high recognition was celebrated on January 27, 1949, the liturgical feast of San Giuliano, with a solemn pontifical mass by Bishop Pietro Capizzi.
