Palazzo Abatellis is an ancient noble palace located in Palermo on Via Alloro, the main artery of the Kalsa district. The palace, along with other historic buildings in Palermo including Palazzetto Agnello and the Chapel of the Incoronata, is owned by the Fund for Religious Buildings and has been in use since the 1990s by the Sicilian region. Palazzo Abatellis has been home to the Regional Gallery of Sicily since 1954, which showcases one of the largest art collections in Italy and reflects the development of figurative culture in Sicily from the 12th to the 17th century with works by important artists who trained or worked more or less extensively on the island, as well as exhibiting works by notable artists not from the Sicilian area. The Gallery is known for hosting some masterpieces that are true icons of Western art history, as well as for the setup by Carlo Scarpa, considered a masterpiece itself.
