The Great Hunting Mosaic is the largest mosaic of the Villa del Casale in Piazza Armerina. It decorates the floor of the long raised corridor that separates the public area from the private area of the villa, from which the large apsidal representative hall and the master apartments open on one side and the peristyle on the other. The importance of this environment was emphasized by the portico that opens in its central part towards the peristyle and by the slight elevation: it was accessed by two staircases from the northern and southern arms of the peristyle, and a third central staircase, in front of the entrance to the large apsidal hall.
