The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter is a high-performance, single-engine supersonic aircraft, originally developed for the United States Air Force (USAF) as an interceptor fighter. It was one of the aircraft of the Century Series and was in service with the USAF from 1958 until 1969, continuing its operational career in the Air National Guard until it was retired in the United States in 1975. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) operated a small mixed fleet of various versions of the F-104 until 1994, used for testing in supersonic flight regimes and in support of space programs.
